2012 Moments
Here is a recap of some of my favorite things this year.
- Blogging for Team Luna Chix.
- Finally admitting that I am in love with running. It used to be something I dread and couldn't stand. I don't remember exactly when it happened, but it happened at some point this year and it feels amazing. My body craves running and even more so it craves how I feel after a run.
- Our trip to Zion this year. It was probably one of the best camping trips of all time. I am more impressed with the miles and miles of hiking that T did. I have never seen him so at peace and happy. It was a magical trip and I cannot wait to return.
- Having my Mom, Dad and Grandmother in the same town. It is very nice to have them so close and I enjoy being able to just drop in for a visit. I missed them terribly when we moved away, and having them here now is such a blessing.
- Landscaping our backyard. It is so nice to have a safe place for the kids to play and run around. It was well worth every penny we put into having it done. The kids love it and so does White Dog.
- Running the Skirt Chaser race with my husband. We don't often do races together as one of us usually has to stay behind to entertain the kids but this was one race we did together and it was so special. The free beer and wine at the end wasn't too shabby either!
- My "girls only" trips to a destination race. Girls trips are always fun but there is something even more special when you travel with your girlfriends to do a race. It's all about laughter, camaraderie, and sharing a special bond over exercise. I was fortunate to have more than one trip this year. First was the Iron Girl triathlon in Las Vegas (with my dear friend GinaMarie) and the other was the Hot Chocolate 15K (with Hilary and Christy). I hope there will be many more in the near future!
- Holding my new baby nephew for the very first time.

Christmas Cookies
Busy little elves baking up a storm.
GG and her boys.
Mr & Mrs Ironman
(and stay tuned to the blog in 2013- Mr. Ironman will be doing some guest postings)
Mom and Dad
D & P
The cousins
One of my boys favorite Christmas traditions is baking Christmas cookies. We pumped up the Christmas tunes and spent the afternoon baking up a storm. We made Peppermint Bark and Sugar cookies. So much fun. Have to admit I did cheat this year and used prepared dough for the Sugar cookies. So much easier! Will most likely do from now on! The taste just as good too.
The family arrived yesterday and it is really starting to feel like Christmas. It truly is my favorite time of year.

Iron Horse Bicycle Classic
"You can totally do it" were the words my husband said when he encouraged me to sign up for a bike race in Colorado in May.
A couple weeks ago I set the alarm on the clock at Midnight to register for the Iron Horse Bicycle Classic. It is a very popular race and I was advised that I must register early in order to secure a spot. At 12:05 I was on the computer registering for the road bike race (for me) and the mountain bike race for P.
So what is this race? Well after I hit confirm on the registration I investigated a little further. The ride is a 50 mile bike race from Durango to Silverton....UP HILL. You start at the bottom around 6500 feet and climb up to about 10,000 feet all the while racing a steam train. The goal is to beat the train to Silverton. Except my goal is TO NOT DIE.
Seriously...what the ____ was I thinking? When I startthinking becoming anxious about this race a certain Kelly Clarkson song pops into my head, but this time the lyrics sing "What doesn't kill you makes you...well...could very well kill you."

My boys.
Hugging my boys a little tighter tonight.
Telling them "I love you" 55 times.
Letting them know that I am proud of them and that they make me smile every single day.
Taking them to get their favorite treats today, just because.
Reminding them when things get tough, there is always someone to talk to who will listen.

Hot Chocolate 15K Run
This weekend was the Hot Chocolate 15K run in Phoenix. The weekend was intended to be a Mommy getaway with my two good friends. The husbands graciously stayed behind to watch the kids so the Mommies could play (well run).
We headed down Saturday morning and spent the day shopping, chatting, and eating. We made a stop at the Chocolate Expo to go pick up our race bibs and registration info. The Expo was cool with a lot of vendors like Skirt Sports, Sole Sports and a bunch of other local races. It was fun to just browse and shop. I always love a good Expo when it comes to this kind of stuff. They also served Hot Chocolate while we browsed. We picked up our bags and got our jackets. Instead of your typical tech tee you got a fun lightweight running jacket. Score! I was worried about long lines at the Expo because I had read some bad reviews from a few months ago about it but they must have got all the kinks out because I didn't have to wait at all.
The next morning we woke early and were told to prepare LOTS of time to get to the race. I am glad we did as there were approx 7000 racers so the line of cars to get off the freeway was miles long. I don't think traffic was being directed that early and that caused for a massive traffic jam. Many people were late for the 5K race which started first. We made it in time but with just a few minutes to spare.

I was nervous about this distance. I have never run more than a 12K and the additional 3K was really freaking me out. So of course I didn't sleep the night before and I have been sick so I knew no PR's would be set in this race.
The course was flat and being at a lower elevation helped. I told myself just run a 10K and see how you feel after that. I found the first couple miles were really tough and I kept saying "how will I ever survive this long?" One thing I love about running races is that I can listen to an ipod (something you cant during most triathlons) so it was nice to have music. Around mile 5 I saw my friend Hilary who was so far ahead of me. I got discouraged for a minute but I didn't let it bother me. She is a fast runner so I should have expected this. I just felt bad that she would be waiting that long for me. About 15 minutes later I saw my other friend Christy. I gave her the thumbs up and she gave me one back so all was good! I decided not to let it bother me that they would have to wait. Besides they had chocolate they could eat to keep them busy!
At the 10K mark I still felt great and decided I to just keep running until I felt like I had to walk. Before I knew it I was at mile 8 and then it dawned on my I was almost done! So at that point I kicked it up a notch and started passing people left and right. I was surprised at where all this energy was coming from. I saw the finish and was so happy (even though I probably look pissed in the race pictures). I was just determined to beat a time of 1:45. I did and actually came in at 1:42! Hilary PR'd at 1:15 and Christy at 1:28. They were Rock-stars!

My friends were waiting for me and said they saved going to get their chocolate bowls until I finished (aaaw such sweet friends). Love them. It was special when we got our mugs and dove into the chocolate together. The chocolate was good, really good. We all inhaled the chocolate a little too quickly because a couple minutes later we had stomach aches. Fail. That much sugar on an empty stomach after running 9 miles probably wasn't the smartest thing to do.
Inside the finisher's mug was hot cocoa, melted dipping chocolate, rice crispy treat, cookies, pretzels, banana, marshmallows, and chocolate squares (which yes I dipped in the chocolate)!

The race was very well organized and we will be back next year!

Running/Cycling Arm Warmers
Part of the Healthy Christmas Gifts Giveaway
It's time for another giveaway! This week I have teamed up with 9 other fitness bloggers to give away some cool fitness gear. To find out what the other giveaways are, you will want to check my Facebook Page this week. I will be listing them daily. There are some really awesome items being given away and for FREE! all you have to do is enter. And even if you don't like the items, perhaps someone on your Christmas list will and you can share the love.
So here is my giveaway this week:
It is a pair of running/cycling arm warmers from Groovy Baby Action Gear. These are not your boring black or white arm warmers you find in every bike shop. These are wild! These are crazy! These are fun! They may even make you run faster! Well...maybe not but it's worth a try.
I chose the sparkle hot pink ones! They were really comfortable once I figured out that the seam runs on the outside of my arm. If you put the seam on the inside, you might get a little chaffing on the inside of your arm but once I switched them, it was fine. They also were snug but not too snug and they stayed up my entire run.
The winner will get to select their very own pair in whatever size needed. If you don't see a color or design on her site, she will create it for you at no additional charge.
Even if you don't win Groovy Baby has graciously given my blog readers a coupon code for 10% off your order. Just enter "Triapair" in the checkout.
Good luck and stay warm.
So how can you win?
a Rafflecopter giveaway
