We also went with growing our garden our our deck. And the reason is we don't have a fenced yard and live in a mountainous area with lots of Javelina (wild boars), deer, coyotes, and rabbits. We didn't want to have all our produce being consumed by the local wildlife.
We got several earth boxes and filled them with all sorts of fruits and vegetables. Only a few kinds made it to date so far. We had a freeze late in the season and a White Dog who enjoyed digging up the manure in the early days. So the only producers were tomatoes (tons of tomatoes), blueberries, raspberries, one zucchini (but big enough to feed 8 people), lettuce, and a few bell peppers.

We get so many tomatoes a week that I have to keep giving them away. If you need tomatoes please let me know. Today I picked a bunch of them and made this delicious pasta dish.
Chopped 5 tomatoes, added some garlic, lemon juice, basil, olive oil, and salt/pepper. Stirred it together and served it over a bed of pasta. It was so tasty!

I'm impressed - I've managed to kill everything I planted this summer! Maybe I can commit to a garden next year :)
ReplyDeleteYou have inspired me even more!! Ok...I REALLY REALLY need to do my own little garden!!!!
ReplyDeleteJoanna- I kill everything also. The only reason this stuff is alive is because of the self watering system hubby installed.
ReplyDeleteMaria- It's so much fun especially when you don't have to do much to it! Kids enjoy picking and eating the items too!
