It's time for yet another Wonder Mom Wednesday link-up. Boy these weeks are just flying by! Does anyone else feel that way? Once again I am linking up with my fabulous hostesses Sue from This Mama Runs for Cupcakes and Susan from Mom Swim Bike Run. Now that the cooler weather is practically knocking on my door, it has me starting to think about the days when my kids are trapped inside. Sure our winters are pretty mild compared to the other side of the U.S. but we still can get chilly temps. And that usually means my kids aren't quite as motivated to go play outside. Here are a few ways I have found, that get my kids involved in exercise or just moving!
- Be a role model- Kids learn from their parents. So if you want your child to be more active you have to set a good example. If they see you always on your phone or computer it's only natural that they will want to do the same. So shut off the electronics for the entire family and start moving.
- Make an obstacle course- Kids love variety. Set up an obstacle course in your living room. Jump over pillows, crawl under the table, hop on one foot and skip to each obstacle. Make it fun and be sure and join in as well.
- Get outside- Sometimes all it takes is just getting your children outside. Go for a hike, encourage him or her to go on a walk with you, go for a bike ride. Grab a ball and play, play, play!
- Dance with them- turn on some music and have a dance party. In our house we like to play Just Dance on the Wii. We set up challenges against each other and get in a great workout too. If you have never played Just Dance, you will be surprised how much the game really gets you and the kids moving.
- Scavenger hunts- Hide various objects around the house and make the children find them with clues. To really get them moving place the objects far apart. For example have them run up and down the stairs over and over. Time it to see how fast they can find the objects.
- Invite friends- One of my favorite ways to get my kids to move about is to invite their friends over. Kids don't want to hang out on the couch all day when their friends are over, they just play. Encourage them to go outside and run around.
What are some tips you have to get your children involved in exercise? I really do read all the linkups and enjoy seeing what different posts we have each week. Please remember it's good karma to link back to the hostesses blogs and grab our Wonder Mom Wednesday graphic to place somewhere in your posting.
Next week's topic: share your favorite mom moments! What were your highlights from the week with your kids?
