Clipless Pedal---Fail.

I tried out my new shoes and pedals yesterday. Why do they call them clipless pedals anyways? You are clipped in to the bike so you are screwed if you panic and try to un-clip in a hurry!

I did really great on the 15 mile ride. I stuck to my normal route and at the stoplights I made sure I was paying attention and un-clipped like a normal rider. I even noticed my time was a lot faster with this ride, thanks to the new pedals. Just as I came to the top of my driveway I braked really hard and lost my balance. I tried to yank my foot out but of course it stayed locked in. I went down hard on the right side. It felt like it was in slow motion. I don't think any of the neighbors actually saw what happened but I know a bunch of "F bombs" came flying out of my mouth, so they probably heard what happened.

I used my wrist to break my fall and I swear yesterday I thought I broke it. The pain and swelling didn't ever go away, so this morning I went to the doctor and had it xrayed. I am still waiting on those results. But as of this afternoon (24 hours later) the pain is finally going away and I don't think it is broken.

Will this stop me from using the pedals? Heck no! I am out to master this now! Maybe my next entry will be Clipless Pedals--Success.

update as of this evening: It is NOT broken!

  1. Definitely not a failure Amanda. We have all been there lying on the ground still clipped in. I would call it an achievement as now you have made the step to more efficient and enjoyable riding. Congrats!
