Safety first.

Have you heard of the new Road ID safety app for your phone?

I feel this is a must-have for all runners and cyclists.

I believe it's only available on the iPhone. It's a free app that you use while you run, bike, hike, whatever!

It works like this...you enter in a couple contacts (via email), when you start your activity it sends a notification to your contacts that you are gong out on a run. It tracks you via GPS. Should you fall down or god forbid someone rips the phone off you and throws it in the bushes; after 5 minutes of stillness it sends an emergency signal to your list of emergency contacts. The message it sends to your contacts includes your location. Also if you happen to forget and lay your phone down at the end of the run, it alerts you with a loud beeping sound so you have the chance to turn it off before the emergency signal is sent out.

I love this app. I am always trail running and I feel safer knowing that I am being tracked. You can also set your home screen to display a photo of your emergency contacts. So if you get hurt, first responders could just click your screen and see your emergency contacts listed along with any medical history you would like displayed.

You can learn more about this app here: http://www.roadid.com

What are you waiting for? Get it!

  1. Oh this is awesome to know about!! I always get nervous when I'm out trail running - especially on long runs.
